Sinopse

“Sigmund Freud left Vienna on 4th June 1938, and
from 6th June until he died on 23rd September 1939 he
made his home in London in Maresfield Gardens. This
being the fortieth anniversary of his death it was
decided that it would be fitting to honour him and his
great contribution to modern thought with an
exhibition in London. We have tried to show his
influence on society today, as well as looking at his
work with the insight of historical perspective.
In 1972 Dr Harald Leupold-Löwenthal of Vienna
prepared an exhibition for the Goethe Institute in
Munich, and this forms the basis of the present
exhibition. As Dr Leupold-Löwenthal says in his
preface to the then catalogue, ‘I have endeavoured for
the most part to let Sigmund Freud speak for himself
through appropriate selected quotations from papers,
documents and letters.’
This mainly pictorial survey of Freud’s life, covering as
it does 83 years, cannot be completely comprehensive,
but we hope nevertheless that the many photographic
